A few weeks ago, it felt like my 50 years on earth

A few weeks ago, it felt like my 50 years on earth had peaked. My favorite childhood Rock and Roll band took over the Capital of my home state. I heard the festival made the largest city in Delaware for the weekend? I couldn’t believe the fun I was allowed to have. Sharing some time with my bestest of friends. People I’ve known longer than seems possible. Enjoying music that feels like the soundtrack to my life. Meeting the greatest people also appreciating this gift of an experience.
I did a 5K with celebrities, a finishing final mile around the race track, I hung with my best friends in the world, I found a geocache, I wandered both aimlessly and with precise intent, I got inducted into an awesome club of people, I camped FEET from the entrance, I met like-minded friendship bracelet lovers (and NFL fans), I met a recent blender related internet celebrity, I did some Misbehavin’ with Uncle Baby Billy. I still can’t believe it. Don’t wake me.

Make a Wish boy strikes again. My luck of travels and falling ass backwards into the greatest experiences continues. Through a clerical error caused by unplanned universe crossings, I ended up at this location feeling like the last human alive on earth. I got to play the number 9 frisbee course in the world, and its equally amazing sister course on the same property. The freedom of playing without the anxiety of a gallery or the annoying way my best friends “encourage” me when it’s my turn. I wish the entire story of how this day transpired would translate into a typeable language, so I could share it with everyone. Call me if you want to hear it.
This place is half uphill, half Roman ruins, half Greek Olympics, half jungle, half safari, half open fields, half along a beautiful waterfront, half in thick trees, half a home for tons of woodland creatures, half my home for the day, and half downhill. If you add all those up, that is how great it was. Thanks for having me!

15,014 miles round trip from home to the Arctic Ocean and back. I still can’t believe it happened. I met the bestest of friends. I had the greatest of adventures. I face planted into the Arctic Ocean (with the oil companies’ permission of course). I drove and saw places I am still in shock over. I saw all the animals that exist. I’ve never been hotter, colder, or dirtier. I found geocaches that had not been found in a decade. I slept in places nobody else ever had. I thought I piloted a seaplane. I played top frisbee courses in 2 countries along the way. I met the baddest-assed dogs. And I finished it with the hike of a lifetime. I am still completely stunned with gratitude whenever I think back.
Thanks to geocaching, frisbee golf, a broken fear bone, and our beloved Pervvie, I saw and did things this boy doesn’t even have the imagination to dream up.
It’s raining. I just wanted to ramble, scroll through my pictures, and see what my map route looked like. I can’t kid anyone with my inane verbosity. I may get this route line turned into a tattoo.

Highline Trail in Glacier. I thought days of hikes like these were behind me. Technically it is, all pictures are of me when I was younger #MitchHedberg
I was not positive this is something I could do any longer, and I set out at 6am uncertain of return. Not sure why. I finished with ease and a smile the entire time. Saw all the animals. Visited a chalet in the mountain clouds. Made a ton of new friends. Renewed my faith and gratitude for the highest of powers I’ve known personally.
I hear people talk about how often they have unpleasant interactions with others. I really wish I could introduce everyone to the people I meet. They are the fucking best. I had no less than 5 groups of strangers check on my well being while doing this hike. The kindest of folks that welcomed me into their temporary, single serving, hiking style friend groups. They encountered a dottering old man, walking alone (me definitely passing them), crying audibly, and talking to himself. My explanation was that tears of joy, and making up a song about all the things I am grateful for is the only way to deal with my emotions. I wish more people could meet the people I meet.

These pictures tell the story of me being visited by an Alaskan Angel named Ed. He descended upon me in an ‘87 Toyota Corolla. He first ridiculed me for my chosen location, and then directed me to a spot I was sure I could not get to. He ridiculed me for thinking that as well. What at first was a failed attempt at finding a 10 year lonely multi geocache, turned into 2 days in heaven. That story is longer and more boring, but here are pictures of heaven

The drive north on the Dalton Highway is the most intense drive of my life. I loved it! and I get to do it again. I talked to several Alaskans during my travels, asking about this drive and in someways looking for dissuasion. All I received were tips, handwritten lists of things not to miss, and an earnest be safe on my adventure vibe. I saw all the extremes, cold, hot, dry dusty, muddy, rain and wind storms, like no other, impassable fog, and also the bluest of cotton balls skies and mountains more jagged than required. All in the same day/drive. Insane.

Recently, we were with the coolest person we’ve ever met. The discussion was stupid hobbies that mean nothing to anyone else. I told him about #Geocaching and he asked me what my biggest flex was? That’s a question I only dream of being asked. For some reason in that moment, I was at a loss for words. Nobody that knows me believes that, as they shouldn’t. But in case that cool guy, James, is reading this right now (he’s not), this is that flex. With this #geocache find in Sitka, Alaska I have found all the year 2000s in the US. That means nothing to anyone, but it does answer a question I was asked a few days ago while kayaking around the Kenai Fjords.
Congrats are not in order. Same as they are not for a man having a child. All I did were the fun bits. #alaska

Today is Scott’s 70th(left). He spins the wax at the local radio station in Dawson City. Walking by I spotted a glass front from a distance and immediately had visions of an old-time radio station. As I got closer, daydream became reality. PR ALERT! I drove 1,104 miles from somewhere in Minnesota to Swiftcurrent in Glacier. 6am to 10:30pm, including a free time zone hour. I am so proud of myself. It was awesome! I just wish my best buddy Dom DeLuise could have been there. I was rewarded with the best hike to Iceberg Lake and a virtual #geocache. Just the way I like to geocache.
